Location: Ski Resort Chepelare (Rhodope Mountains)
Status: Completed, 2007
Client: Borika AD
Total Built-up area: 7.610 m²
The Ski hotel Borika is situated on the South side of the mountain in the periphery of the small city of Chepelare. The steep slope allows a non-traditional design solution. The entrance area including an outdoor parking and the reception lobby are located on the top floor, which reveals a wonderful view of the mountain. There are three more levels below, each of them including a range of hotel rooms, all facing the South and the beautiful landscape.
The hotel provides more than 125 beds. The space under the pitched roof is used for double height studios. The service area includes 2 restaurants, a lobby bar, a swimming pool, a SPA complex and skiing facilities.
Integrating local materials and typical architectural elements with pure geometrical shapes and contemporary details, the design links tradition and modernity. The building grows from a heavy stone base and raises lighter up to the roof. The façade walls fade away under the large eaves. A transparent wooden cladding wraps the structure and creates a transition space between the interior of the rooms and the nature.
